Description

Even against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face physical education classes have started being conducted at our university in phases since June 2020. In 2020 and 2021, the outdoor education program, which involves conducting outdoor activities, was implemented as a day program on the campus as well as in its neighborhood. The purpose of this report was to examine the outcomes of and issues involved in organizing outdoor activities in 2020 and 2021 under the spread of COVID-19. To this end, our research participants, who were 30 students having participated in the outdoor activities conducted in 2021, completed an evaluation questionnaire at the end of each physical education class. The questionnaire comprised questions pertaining to the educational effects, participant satisfaction levels on attending the classes, and the measures they perceived as essential to prevent the spread of coronavirus. We then analyzed the 2021 evaluation questionnaire and compared the results with those obtained from the questionnaire distributed in 2020. Educational effects, and management method to control the spread of the virus, resulted from the outdoor education program. Despite the program organizers having implemented COVID-19 infection control measures adequately, some students still not became implement infection control measures; thus, it was deemed imperative to educate them about the safety measures to be followed during the pandemic. Outdoor education programs may not be held onsite due to COVID-19. Therefore, it is crucial that the day program conducted in and around the campus entail educational value as an onsite alternative. This continuous effort over a span of two years has helped organize a day program of high educational value.
