Abstract
<p>Recently, the number of large-scale commercial facilities closures is increasing in the city centers of provincial cities. Since the closure gives severe influence on liveliness, provincial cities are seeking the measure to ease the effect. This paper aims to analyze the influence of a large store closure on the pedestrian volume and distribution the inner city in the Tsukuba center, Ibaraki prefecture. The paper conducts the pedestrian survey before and after the closure of the Seibu Tsukuba. By analyzing the pedestrian volume and distribution, the paper finds out: the influence of the closure on pedestrians happens in the adjacent area of the store, pedestrian traffic that is not affected by the closure and traffic by events can be activated to bring liveliness in the center.</p>
