<p>This study focuses on how Shaker design has got critical character to modern design. Thereat it takes up three exhibition catalogues in twentieth century: they are held in New York City, Munich, and Tokyo. Thereby, we can arrange their criticisms and discussions into following topics: (1) achievement of American Arts and Crafts movement, (2) ethic in modern design, and (3) approach to Mingei theory.</p>
