Description
In this article we reexamined the concept of “shakai”, a translation of society. This concept becomes established in Japan and is a common basis for social sciences in East Asia. About 150 years have passed since the birth of “shakai” as a translated word, however even still now a meaning of “shakai” is undefined. A main purpose of this article is to examine a possibility of a citizen society which is distinguished from “shakai” as normative consciousness aiming respect for differences and equality, and market or market power and administration or administrative power based on discussions of Yasutaka Ichinokawa and Park Goo Yong.
