Abstract

Although humans should have no choice but to “submit to nature,” they introduced the situation in which the Amazon rainforest has been devastated by the creation of ranches for raising cattle and other animals and the expansion of soybean fields. On the other hand, those living in Japan can still find chicken meat sold in convenience stores and fast-food restaurants, but it often comes far away from the Amazon rainforests in Brazil. Since those chickens are grown by soybeans, tropical forests are being cut down and lost rapidly for soybean cultivation. Aluminum used for canned juice and other products has also been mined there, which has led to the environmental destruction of the Amazon rainforest for a long time. In contrast, the Indians of the Amazon believe that spirits dwell in everything and that they are kept alive by the power of these spirits, and they have lived with nature with a sense of awe and respect, knowing “enough”. The author explains that the Rainforest Frontier Foundation (RFJ) has been working to protect the rainforests that are the basis of their lives through beekeeping and firefighting projects.
