Abstract

To prevent scatterings of concrete debris caused by low-velocity impacts of thin reinforced concrete slabs during building constructions, this study proposed a method for calculating for penetration depths of the reinforced concrete slabs. The proposed method is based on the energy equilibrium between the kinematic energy of projectiles, and the sum of absorption energy of reinforcement bars and the energy calculated by the empirical formula predicting the perforation limit of reinforced concrete slabs. The proposed methods provided results which were conservative for experimental results.
