Abstract

The former Yoshizawa House in Nishijin, Kyoto, had a floor plan of four rooms lined up along the Tori-niwa. “Oriya-date Style” is known as a form of townhouse unique to Nishijin area; its feature is the floor plan that uses the back room as a non-floored factory space. This paper clarified that the house originally was a weaving house built in the late Edo period, and consists of a factory space in the back, as well as two rooms next to it. This house is valuable as a concrete example of “Oriya-date Style”, which dates back to the Edo period.
