Description

The Japanese National University Council for Clinical Quality Management is dedicated to improving the quality of patient safety education. In 2020, the council’s Board of Education investigated the current situation regarding staff training related to patient safety in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. This investigation targeted national university hospitals and asked for opinions on future staff education. Approximately 70% of the respondents answered that the status of staff training conducted in 2020 was the same as that of the previous year. All the respondents, however, stated that the implementation method in 2020 have changed from the previous year and more than 90% of the respondents used on-demand online training. On-demand online training has a high affinity with micro-learning that combines short-term content, and encourages educatees to participate voluntarily and according to their own goals. From the perspective of adult education or lifelong education, it is preferable to incorporate micro-learning in staff education, and the era of the COVID-19 pandemic has encouraged changes to educational methods. In the future, we would like to consider the sharing of materials among the council members.
