Abstract

To obtain the spatial distribution of the spatial high-resolution habitat suitability I (HSI) of horseshoe crab larvae, we used a UAV equipped with a multispectral camera to estimate the bathymetric distribution of intertidal areas on tidal flats that are not inhabited by horseshoe crabs. We also proposed RBI, which estimates mud volume from the B and R channels of UAV aerial photographs and estimated the spatial distribution of mud content on tidal flats. Using these data, HSI was calculated from the distribution of the water depth SI and mud content SI of horseshoe crab larvae, and it was found that the habitat density of horseshoe crabs was high in the area with high HSI. Mud content may have a significant effect on the spatially small-scale population density distribution of horseshoe crab larvae in Yamaguchi Bay.
