Abstract

Responding to the Industry 4.0 movement, the manufacturing industry has been rapidly shifting towards digitalization. Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are seen as a key enabler for Industry 4.0, where physical space and virtual space are integrated to create new values. This paper provides an overview of the current research and practice related to CPS, with particular focus on production systems and circular economy business. Moreover, challenges and opportunities of CPS in the context of artifact design are discussed.
