Abstract
Trichomonas vaginalis is a pathogenic organism that causes trichomoniasis. Mycoplasma genitalium is another pathogen recognized as the causative agent of genital infections, such as urethritis in men and cervicitis in women. In this study, cobas® TV/MG (Roche Diagnostics K.K.), a newly developed real-time polymerase chain reaction-based assay, was used and compared with other diagnostic methods for T. vaginalis and M. genitalium. Using urine and vaginal swab samples, the overall percent agreement of cobas® TV/MG with T. vaginalis culture and Aptima Mycoplasma genitalium assay (Hologic Japan, Inc) was 97.5% (1,377/1,412) and 96.4% (1,351/1,402), respectively. In conclusion, cobas® TV/MG is an effective clinical diagnostic test for T. vaginalis and M. genitalium.
