Description
<p>The management of malignant skin wounds with bleeding, infection, and malodor is particularly challenging because of the advanced stage of the local tumor. We created a modified Mohs’ paste based on a carboxymethyl cellulose (moM-CMC) sol 1.0 for such wounds. However, moM-CMC sol 1.0 cannot be stored because its properties change an hour after mixing, making it is necessary to prepare it fresh before each treatment, and it is not easy to handle. Therefore, we formulated moM-CMC sol 2.0 for maintaining the sol in storage for over 3 months, and it has better handling properties than moM-CMC sol 1.0. First, we determined the composition of moM-CMC sol 2.0 (5 g of zinc chloride, 2.5 ml of purified water, and 0.75 g of CMC). The suspension was packed in a syringe, and it became jelly-like in a water bath within 15 minutes. Then, we used moM-CMC sol 2.0 on canine and feline malignant skin wounds. All ten cases showed clinical symptoms of malignant wounds. moM-CMC sol 2.0 was applied to the malignant skin wounds using a syringe. The sol transitioned to a gel on the tumors because of exudate from the ulcer lesion. The treatments were performed for 10–60 minutes, 1 – 20 times at one-week intervals. Temporary palliative effects of malodor were achieved in all the cases. moM-CMC sol 2.0 made in advance can be easily and immediately used for malignant skin wounds.</p>
