Abstract

In recent years, paramedics working at hospitals have been attracting attention, even though they are mainly responsible for providing pre-hospitalization emergency medical care. This report describes paramedics’ role and future perspectives working at a regional emergency hospital in Tsukuba. Their duties include caring for patients in the emergency department and transferring them to other hospitals using their own ambulances. Paramedics can contribute to emergency hospital care using their unique abilities, especially in situations requiring resuscitation. In the future, paramedics are expected to perform tracheal intubation in the emergency department after establishing systems in the hospital.
