Abstract

According to an annual report on physical fitness of school children, it is documented that the level of physical fitness of school children in Hokkaido is lower than the national average. As a background that brings the decrease of physical fitness level, our previous studies indicated that various changes of lifestyle and consciousness including the aspects of health and physical conditions should be considered. Considering previous studies, it seems to be suggested that the strategy focused upon the bared ladder training on the spot is discussed to improve their hysical fitness in physical education program. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the bared ladder training program on the aspect of physical fitness of school children. Participants( n=18) were male and female students of local junior high school. They were divided into control and experimental groups. Instead of normal warm-up exercise of physical education class, ladder exercises on the spot were introduced under the shod condition in control group and the bared condition in experimental group. The ladder training program on the spot set 11 items consisting of sequential motions in 6 mins, and performed two to three times a week during 3 weeks in an experimental group. The both groups were asked to perform fundamental motor ability tests (20 meter dash, stepping, and standing jump) before and after the 3 week session. The statistical treatment indicated that the score of standing jump test in the experiment groups was significantly improved in the post test. Reversely this ladder training resulted in the decrease of 20 meter dash in experimental group despite no significant difference in control group. The present study shows that the difference between the bared and the shod was not clear, but the ladder training on the spot seems to have some benefits on improvement of physical fitness on physical fitness for school children. This finding can extract useful information for educational guideline to incorporate ladder drills into PE program.
