Abstract

A 13-year-old casted male LaPerm cat was admitted to the Tokyo Animal Medical Center, because of continuous vomiting. Despite initial treatment with intravenous crystalloid fluid and maropitant, the clinical condition of the cat did not improve. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a hyperechoic nodule in the left pancreatic lobe. In addition, fasting serum gastrin levels were indicative of hypergastrinemia. These findings led to the clinical diagnosis of pancreatic gastrinoma. After diagnosis, a proton pump inhibitor was administered and a left-sided pancreatectomy was performed. At the time of the last follow-up, the clinical signs were well controlled for three years. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of successful curable resection of feline pancreatic gastrinoma with a clinical diagnosis using ultrasonography and fasting serum gastrin evaluation.
