Description

A frictional testing system which utilizes a conventional material test was newly designed for critically high contact pressure cases such as up to 300MPa, since the contact pressure is one of the key parameter for the tribological behavior of materials and the friction under high contact pressure is observed in the damage initiation process of a pinned composite joint. Here, the frictional force is given by an axial loading actuator and the contact force is by hydraulic wedge grips. This paper discusses the contact force and its stress distribution as a function of the axial loading force using two-dimensional finite element solutions for the contact problem and several experimental results and it is verified that constant contact load and almost uniform contact stress exist on the contact surface.
