Abstract

It has been pointed out that HTTP/3 performs worse than HTTP/2 under high-quality networks with high bandwidth, very low latency and packet loss rates, or for the Web pages consisting of many small sub-resources. This paper proposes a method to reduce page load time by adaptively selecting the optimal protocol according to the contents. We measured the page load times of HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 for various web contents, and implemented the optimal protocol switching algorithm. As a result, the proposed method reduces the page loading time more than HTTP/3 for a Web page consisting of many sub-resources.
