京都大学農学部附属芦生演習林において1974年5月から11月まで,ホンドギツネとホンドテンの食性を糞分析法により調べた。ノウサギ・ネズミ類・昆虫類と果実類がキツネとテンの重要な食物であった。残飯類はキツネの糞から検出されただけであった。季節別にみると,キツネでは春にノウサギ,夏に昆虫類,秋に果実類が最もよく利用されていたが,テンでは春にネズミ類,夏にノウサギ,秋に果実類が最もよく利用されていた。

The present paper dealt with food habits of the red fox and the Japanese marten which were studied from May to November in 1974 by the fecal analysis in the Ashu Experimental Forest, northern part of Kyoto Prefecture. Hare, small rodents, insects and fruits were the main foods for both foxes and martens. Garbages were only found in the scats of foxes. Foxes and martens showed some seasonal differences in their dominative foods, i.e., the former ate mainly hares in spring, insects in summer and fruits in autumn, but the latter took mainly small rodents in spring, hares in summer and fruits in autumn.
