Abstract

This paper analyzes the economic effects in Toyama Prefecture mainly from the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen which launched in March, 2015. First, in each year (except 2020) after its opening, the amount of tourism-consumption in Toyama had increased compared with the amount in 2014. According to 'input-output analysis,' economic ripple effects had also increased. Next, whether the significant regional influence caused by the Hokuriku Shinkansen changed Toyama’s economic situation was analyzed. Results showed that the economic environment of Toyama Prefecture in 2015 seems to have had a trend showing more characteristics of a tourism-influent economy compared with that in 2011, which means that the more tourism-consumption increases in Toyama, the larger economic effects Toyama’s economy experiences.
