Description

This paper examines the debates over the idea that India should colonise the former German East Africa, which later became Tanganyika under the British mandatory rule, and Indian petitions to the mandatory power and the League of Nations. It explores how, from the First World War period to the 1920s, Indians engaged with Tanganyika, and they perceived and attempted to utilise the League of Nations and its mandates system in their struggle against what they thought was an injustice.
