説明

The Achievement Motivation in Physical Education Test (AMPET) has been developed and standardized by Nishida (1989) as a measure for assessing achievement motivation for learning in physical education class. The subjects of measurement for the AMPET, however, ranged from the 4th grade pupils at elementary school to the 3rd grade students at high school. This study attempted to examine the applicability of the AMPET to pupils in the lower grades. The subjects were 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade pupils at elementary school. They were asked to respond to all items of a revised version of the AMPET for the pupils on a 3-point rating scale. The test items were readable and understandable to the pupils. After factor analyses, the AMPET for the pupils in the lower grades (AMPET-L) which consists of 35 items was constructed. Six subscalcs of the AMPET-L, learning strategy, overcoming obstacles, diligence and seriousness, competence of motor ability, value of learning, and anxiety, were almost identical to the original AMPET. Split-half reliability estimates of the AMPET-L were relatively high. The significant correlations were found between the AMPET-L and self-evaluations such as interest and enjoyment of physical activities, teacher's ratings of learning behaviors in physical education class, and a motor ability test. It was suggested that the achievement motivation for learning in physical education class of pupils in the lower grades was measurable by using a questionnaire method. For the next step, however, further investigations are necessary to heighten the validity of the AMPET-L.
