抄録

本論では在米日本古資料調査の中で確認された日本と諸外国との国際交流を示す写真資料に着目し，それらの写真資料が過去の交流の場面をより具体的に想起させる特質を考察する．そして写真資料から見える交流のかたちを分類し，各ジャンルにおける写真資料の米国内における保存・公開状況を概説する．その上で，国際交流や異文化接触の足跡を辿ることのできる写真資料のアーカイビングやドキュメンテーションが今後どのようにあるべきかについて考察す る．

This study represents ongoing research on a collection of old Japanese photographs in the United States of America (USA), with particular attention to their feature as a specific locus for past international exchange between foreign countries. This study explains the patterns of intercultural exchange that appear in these photographs as well as their preservation and publication by genre in the USA. Furthermore, ideal methods for the future preservation and documentation of these photographs to elucidate the past processes of international exchange and intercultural understanding are also considered.
