Abstract

Reclamation Projects to convert coastal sea areas into the land for multipurpose utilization have been implemented in many major cities in Japan. Chapters 1 and 2 are the summary of a thesis which examines the benefit and project costs of the utilization of reclaimed land for multiple purposes from a new point of view, and proposes a method of theoretically evaluating the scale of reclaiming land by obtaining a marginal benefit and cost function that resulted from changes in the scope of land reclamation plans and the trade-off relationship between the two founctions.

Chapter 3 is devoted to the verification of the methods of theoretical appraisal of multi-purpose reclaimed land obtained in Chapters 1 and 2. Examples adopted for the verification are the reclaimed land in the Tokyo coastal zone area. The muli-purpose reclaimed land in the area of the Port of Tokyo was applied in the verification, excluding the Kasai ares.
