Description
In order to investigate the secretion and metabolism of steroids urinary steroid fractions in normal young subjects and normal elderly subjects were measured by means of the gas-liquid chromatographic method (Elorning-Sakauchi). 1. In elderly subjects, lower excretions of 11-deoxy-17 KS were observed and also there were significant differences between young subjects and elderly subjects in 17-OH-21-OHCS. 2. In elderly subjects, androsterone to etiocholanolone ratios were about the same an in the young subjects, while low cortol ,(β-cortol)+cortolone (β-cortolone), to tetrahydrocotisone+tetrahydrocortisol (allo tetrahydrocortisol) ratios in male and low cortolone (β-cortolone) to cortol (β -cortol) ratios and low tetrahydrocortione+cortolone (β-cortolone) to tetrahydrocortisol (alto-tetrahydrocortisol)+cortol (βcortol) ratios were seen in female subjects. 3. In both elderly and young subjects, pregnanediol to pregnanetriol ratios were higher than in male and lower in female. 4. In elderly subujects, 11-deoxy-17 KS to 17-OH-21-OHCS ratios were lower than in young subjects.
