抄録
Effect of eye movement direction on reading errors of alphanumeric codes was experimentally investigated. Human reading interface with horizontal layout and vertical layout of alphanumeric codes was instrumented by Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. Effect of eye movement direction on reading failures of codes was not found. And effect of eye movement direction on neither misreading nor resignation was found. In four digits of which a code consists, effect of eye movement direction on misreading was not found for first, second and third digit, but rate of misreading at vertical layout was higher than at horizontal layout only for fourth digit, that is right most digit. While misreading of most characters occurs without any laws, a dozen of specific characters shows dominantly high rate of misreading. These specific characters at horizontal layout are quite different from that at vertical layout.
