Description

This study investigated how students’ conception of the environment learning is related to the landscape photographs they took in a class that focuses on the greenery around them. The data in order to understand this relationship were the landscape photographs and a free description expressing why are they chose those photographs. Psychometric scales were used to judge students’ conception of environmental learning. This study is aimed to show a trial analysis using free description data.146 junior high school students who participated in the targeted class practice were instructed to take a picture of the most interesting things in the greenery around students. According to the 140 valid answers, results showed that:1) the students had a passive or active orientation toward class practice; 2) the free description was written in more diverse expressions in the active orientation than in the passive orientation. Clarifying the purpose of the practice would allow free description answers to be interpreted more deeply.
