Abstract

Recently, we have been working on the development of π-conjugated cholesteric liquid crystal with the aim of realizing circularly polarized electroluminescence. In this study, we investigated the selective reflection and circularly polarized photoluminescence characteristics of dimer-type cholesteric liquid crystals that adopted oligo(p-phenylenevinylene) as a π-conjugated system. As the result, we observed the different circularly polarized photoluminescence characteristics between the forward and backward configurations of the detector to the excitation light. It was found that this characteristic is owing to the dense aggregation of the π-conjugated system and the disorder of the molecular orientation.
