Abstract

In our previous work, it was found that some rod-shaped low molecular compounds containing perfluoroalkyl group at a terminal position exhibited smectic A phase in bulk state and gelated several organic solvents and/or ionic liquids. In this work, two types of fluorine-containing phenyl benzoate derivatives which changed the orientation of ester group were synthesized, and it was considered that the correlation between liquid crystallinity and gelation with [BMIM][TFSA] from the thermodynamic properties, microscope observation, and rheological properties. As the results of them, the 5wt% gels formed by {4-[2-(perfluorohexyl)]ethylsulfanyl}phenyl 4-(octyloxy)benzoate exhibited thixotropy and observed micelle-like texture by polarized microscope.
