Abstract

The first step in hepatitis virus treatment is hepatitis virus testing. Few studies have focused on those who tested negative. To determine the degree to which patients who were informed of a negative result recognized and remembered the information, we conducted a questionnaire survey over 2 years. When the negative result was informed verbally or in writing to the patients at the hospital, only 42% of those who responded to the questionnaire stated that they remembered the negative result 1 year later. Still, in the second year, a negative result card, a business card-sized with color print, was distributed together with the document notifying the negative results; after 1 year, the recognition rate of negative results significantly improved to 68%. It was clear that the use of a simple tool can lead to an improvement in the recognition of negative results.
