In Japan, falconry was practiced in ancient times by the emperor and nobility. However, from medieval times onward it came to be almost entirely practiced by samurai. This paper focuses on one such falconry school, the Nezu school. The Nezu school's falconry techniques were the most popular ones amongst the samurai from the Warring States period to the Edo period. ft became widespread amongst families positioned to accede the shogunate (shogunke) and domain lords due to Nezu Sh5y5ken having served Tokugawa Ieyasu. The warrior falconry technique schools that flourished during medieval and early modem times all spread along with their own takasho, books on falconry. In these books, one finds falcon stories, decorum, and so on unique to the school. Due to the circulation of these takasho, various schools developed, and falconry flourished far and wide. These falconry schools and the takasho that belonged to them were an important culture that supported this flourishing during medieval and early modem times. This paper will focuses on the Nezu school, the falconry school that flourished the most during these times. It presents a set of newly discovered takasho passed down in the Yoda family, which was chosen during the Kyoho period to be the Kaga domain's falconers. Then, it will examine the takasho entitled Nezu ishu ken, a representative text from the Nezu school in which Yoda Morimasa's name appears. The majority of this text is comprised of a story about the falconer Nezu Jinpei Sadanao. This story is only found in takasho passed down in the Yoda family. Furthermore, it also is related to text written on the falconry licenses issued by the Yoda family. In light of this, we can assume that the Yoda family's Nezu school falconry spread widely along with the story of Nezu Jinpei Masanao found in this takasho.
