Description

According to the criteria for judging the indications of extracorporeal shock wave therapy proposed by the International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment (ISMST), the recommendation level of this therapy varies among different illnesses. We compared the short-term outcomes of this therapy at our facility among illnesses with varying recommendation levels according to the ISMST criteria. The pain alleviation rate and response rate at our facility were higher in cases of golf elbow (recommendation level B) and tenosynovitis of the wrist (recommendation level C) than in cases of jumper's knee (recommendation level A). We may therefore say that the magnitudes of the response of illnesses to extracorporeal shock wave therapy were not precisely correlated with the ISMST recommendation levels for this therapy.
