Abstract

Most of the woody biomass power plants introduced in Japan are boiler and turbine power generation plants, but their generating efficiency is low, at less than 30 %. In this type of power plant, the temperature of the exhaust gas emitted from the exhaust stack is relatively high (around 150°C) but remains unutilized, and the energy is expected to be utilized. However, no reports have so far systematically examined heat recovery from flue gas in power plants. In this study, the characteristics of flue gases in steam turbine-based wood biomass power plants of different sizes were investigated and the heat recovery potential from the flue gases was assessed.
