Description

In order to understand the reality of sugar dating, the author registered on dating sites and apps, and interviewed “sugar babies”. From face-to-face interviews, the author obtained information on each of the following topics: upbringing history, first sexual experience and relationships, contents of sugar dating, episodes of daddies’ activities, troubles and risk management of sugar dating by sugar babies, friends’ sugar dating, problems they are facing, and their intention to continue their sugar dating. In addition, we constructed a typology of sugar babies obtained from these interviews, and described the actual image of “daddies” from the stories of the dadies they met. In conclusion, sugar dating was an act that was no different from compensated dating.
