Abstract

It was found that by adding CaO or K2CO3 to PVC at a molar ratio of 3 during pyrolysis at 573K, the hydrogen chloride generation rate could be reduced from 75% to 20%. On the other hand, when CaCO3 was added at the same molar ratio, the hydrogen chloride generation rate could only be reduced to about 60%. Further, when K2CO3 was added at a molar ratio of 1, the amount of hydrogen chloride contained in the solid residue was about 50%.
