Abstract

This study investigated the differences of younger children’s knowledge on road signs and traffic safety terms, based on their ages. Children aged between 4 to 12 years participated in this study. Through a web-based face-to-face survey, the children were asked the meaning of 7 road signs and about their familiarity with 20 traffic safety terms. The results showed that while some road signs and road safety terms were understood or known with children’s advancing age, other signs and terms remained unknown at all ages. Road safety education and designs of road signs were discussed based on children’s developmental stages.
