Description

Focusing on international flights, this paper focuses on code-share flights among the achievements of global alliances, and analyzes trends based on statistical data and timetables. As a result, worldwide demand for air travel is rising steadily, and the background to this rapid increase is the liberalization of air travel, the accompanying development of global alliances and LCCs, and lower airfares. Global alliances represent approximately 60% of the airline market and have led to an increase in the number of flights and destinations in FSC and inter-city air traffic, as well as expansion of route networks using code-sharing. JAL and ANA concentrate their own flights on flights departing from Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, while code-share flights and flights operated by foreign airlines are the norm for flights departing from Fukuoka, Sapporo, and other regions. The increase in the number of code-share flights and flights operated by foreign airlines has been brought about by the development of global alliances. The strengthening of the network connecting these cities to the rest of the world will be beneficial to passengers. The number of flights and destinations are led by Tokyo, followed by Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and other regional destinations. The larger the city, the larger the demand and the larger the equipment. It was also confirmed that LCCs have made remarkable progress in recent years.
