Abstract
<p>Although the traditional biomass such as fire wood, charcoal, straw and dung supplies 31 EJ of energy to the world that demand 492 EJ of energy annually, the use of traditional biomass is causing a tree trimming pressure for forests and the soot that is emitted from the biomass combustion causes health problem for the 2.7 billion people who depend on biomass for daily cooking. Therefore providing the simple, easy to maintain and highly efficient combustor that can be used in the area without the access to the clean cooking appliance is important. To develop highly efficient biomass combustor, the authors reported a four cylindrical combustor with natural air supply that combusted wood pellet in three stages showing the blue and yellow flame of volatile components combustion at the early stage, the big yellow flame of pyrolysis component combustion at the middle stage and the blue flame of charcoal combustion at the last half of the total combustion period (the third stage) with a short transition period between the second and the third stages. Here the authors report the effect of swirling chimney effect cylinder on the combustor.</p>
