Abstract

Objective: We investigated the relationship between tumor localization and postoperative complications of surgery cases of posterior mediastinal tumors at our hospital and examined the appropriateness of the current treatment approach. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 18 surgical cases performed for the diagnosis of posterior mediastinal tumors. Results: Postoperative complications due to nerve damage and they were significantly more common in tumors occurring at levels of Th4 or higher. Conclusion: Nerve-sparing techniques such as subtotal resection or intracapsular enucleation should be considered in the resection of posterior mediastinal tumors occurring at levels of Th4 or higher.
