Abstract

Nagoya University Museum has been holding a series of event programs, Nagoya University Museum’s Outreach Program, at the Nagoya City Science Museum and local shopping malls, bringing out and introducing the museum specimens to be useful for the people in the community. Student staff choose their own favorite museum specimens, called “oshi-hyohon,” and they prepare their original exhibition panels. Based on dialogue through their ingenious presentation and hands-on exhibition, it is opened to everyone, including those who are not interested in museums. The aim is to invite people to a world of unknown interests even they have not noticed and to provide an opportunity for nurturing the intellectual curiosity. This series of event programs were held five times between 2019 and 2022. Every time after the event, the issues that come along with the preparation and the operation are shared between the staff members in order to expand new initiatives in the future. Here we introduce our regional collaborative activities regarding museum education, emphasizing the importance of dialogue with communities, and also discuss the learning styles using museum specimens.
