Abstract

<p>    The location behavior of multinational corporations and of global supply chains have a great influence on the contemporary international division of labor. In order to consider the logic behind the organization of this division of labor, this paper summarizes and examines the changes in the international division of labor in Japan and Asia and the characteristics of the location behavior of Japanese multinational corporations in Asia. In addition, we examine the theory of global production networks (especially the logic in the dynamics of global production networks). <BR>    Not only developed countries but also some emerging countries have come to demonstrate international competitiveness in the heavy and chemical industries. The location behavior of multinational corporations and the development of global supply chains are thought to be promoting economic growth and changes in the location environment in emerging countries. This logic is particularly applicable to Japanese multinational corporations' location behavior in Asia and their global supply chains.</p>
