Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to critically examine the controversy over Honda's success in the U.S. motorcycle market from the perspective of business history and to identify empirical issues. Although representative previous studies focus on the same case of Honda, they do not fit together because they have different research objectives and different time frames. Management historians should update the case description itself through historical review work, and theorists should draw new findings from the updated case.
