<p>An appropriate curriculum for crown and bridge prosthesis in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Osaka Dental University is lacking, therefore three common assignments were selected and a learning plan created that incorporated active learning through group work. Subsequently, the content of active learning, relevant evaluation methods, and examination results were examined. The participants were second‐year students who were divided into groups and engaged in problem‐solving learning for three assignments. Each student comprehensively judged and devised an evaluation sheet by inputting individual and group evaluations on a five‐point scale. The final evaluation was divided into 50 points based on the usual performance score evaluated on the evaluation sheet and 50 points from the unit test (i.e., 100 points). The minimum passing standard was set at 60 points or higher. The mean±SD values of the usual performance, examination, and total scores were 44.4±1.21, 34.7±7.86, and 79.14±8.17, respectively. Most students satisfied the minimum passing requirements. This study indicated that students of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Osaka Dental University should adopt a new approach to solving specific problems through cooperation, communication, and developing their ability to exchange information and opinions.
