Abstract
In injection-locked oscillators, the frequency band of injected signals that enables synchronization is called the locking range. Achieving a wider locking range, i.e., improving the synchronization capability, is useful in practical applications, and the elucidation of the limits of its realization is a matter of scientific interest. This study gives one answer to the fundamental question, “Is it possible to maximize the synchronization capability of an oscillator under a given low injection power, or minimize the injection power to achieve a given synchronization capability?” The answer is obtained by applying the theory of optimal injection-locking to the newly obtained observation of power consumption inside the oscillator during synchronization.
