Abstract

It is important for overseas volunteers to have adequate health care and to prevent travel related illnesses while in developing countries. The lack of information regarding health care for overseas volunteers from NGO/NPOs in Japan led to our investigation by survey of NGO/NPOs. The subjects were 91 organizations (response rate; 39.0%) among 235 large-scale NGO/NIPOs. Our study found that most overseas volunteers had insufficient health care and were inadequately supported by NGO/NPOs and diplomatic missions abroad. We should establish a system for supporting overseas volunteers with regard to travel medicine.
