Description
Alumina bricks and alumina-carbon bricks, both of which had the same grain size distributions of alumina, were prepared to compare the effect of grain size composition. They show similar relationships between the grain size composition and the brick properties for fired linear change, bending strength and elastic modulus, but show different relationships for apparent porosity, bulk density, median pore diameter and compressive strength. This can be attributed to the difference in controlling factors of these properties: properties of the alumina bricks depend only on packing and sintering of alumina, while deformation of graphite plays an important role in the properties of alumina-carbon bricks.
