Takashi Oka, “Ume Kenjiro - Nihon Mimpo no Chichi” (Kenjiro Ume as the father of Japanese Civil Code), Hosei Daigaku Shuppankyoku (Hosei University Press), 2023. Hosei University Library has the Documents of Prof. Ume that consist of 70 booklets. Those are open at digital archive of this library since February 2023. We expect the development of the study of modern Japanese laws history greatly though the exhibit. This paper deals with: how the library had accepted those documents of Ume; those overview, and comments about a few documents. Those documents of Ume consist on four fields. The first field is the documents about law-makings. In this field there are “Mimpo Shuseian Sankosho” (Reference Materials on Proposed Revisions of Japanese Civl Code). There are many differences between those documents and “Mimpo Shuseian (zen sampen) no Riyusho” edited by Toshio Hironaka(Yuhikaku, 1987. Reasons on Proposed Revisions ―from the first volume until the third volume―of Japanese Meiji Civil Code). The following No.5 on this paper handles several points of those differences as a case study. The second field handles the Manuscripts of Ume’s works, Opinions and his notebooks of the lectures, the third field documents of law-makings about Korea and the fourth field the others. We can find the document by “Ume bunsho kenkyukai hen, Hosei daigaku shozo Ume Kenjiro bunsho mokuroku” (the List of Documents of Prof. Kenjiro Ume that belong to Hosei University Library edited by Group for the Study of Ume’s Documents. Boissonade Institute of Modern Law and politics, 2020). As a next study there are for examples the adjustment and analysis of Answers concering the customs research in the Ume’s Documents and the notebooks of lectures at Hosei Univeresity that are kept in this library.
