Description

As population growth and industrial development continue, global energy consumption is on the rise. This increase is leading to a surge in carbon emissions, which is a pressing issue due to its contribution to global warming. Although we are far from reaching our goal, one method to curb carbon emissions is to repurpose the carbon itself into a different form of energy. In this study, we selected the methanation process as a means to utilize carbon. We optimized the properties of the heat exchanger to create the most favorable conditions for converting CO2 into methane with minimal energy consumption. This optimization was carried out using a genetic algorithm. The relationship between the UA value, the amount of methane produced, and the energy efficiency of the heat exchanger are discussed. Based on user preferences, three optimal scenarios were selected.
