Description
According to social movement frame theory, efectively explaining problem causes through diagnostic framing, presenting solutions through prognostic framing, and providing reasons to support its solutions through motivational framing can increase activity legitimacy and necessity. This study examines the frames in SEALDs'mobilization activities. The findings reveal that SEALDs, through their diagnostic frames, attributed the causes of issues to the administration of the time, which had moved away from democracy, and criticized young people's lack of independent thinking about politics. Through prognostic framing, the SEALDs proposed solutions such as dialogues aimed at deepening mutual understanding to enhance young people's sense of agency, and alliances with opposition parties and citizen coalitions. Furthermore, through motivational framing, SEALDs instilled in young people a sense of urgency and responsibility to protect Japan's future and democracy. These frames helped to form a common understanding of the issues among the mobilization targets and promoted commitment to the movement.
