Description

This study aimed to explain the relationships between Positive Solitude (PS) and personality traits, social networks, loneliness, and life satisfaction among Japanese individuals. Using online survey data collected from 301 participants (147 male, 151 female, 3 other; average age 41.70 years) through crowdsourcing services, an analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling. The results revealed that PS was positively associated with extraversion, conscientiousness, openness, and agreeableness, and negatively associated with emotional instability. Additionally, PS has been found to reduce feelings of loneliness and influence life satisfaction. However, the relationship between PS and social networks is limited, with only family networks affecting PS. These findings suggest that PS plays an important role in providing mental health support. Future studies should employ a longitudinal approach to examine participants from diverse backgrounds.
