Description

Ultrafast imaging is a powerful tool for studying a diverse range of dynamics and has helped researchers investigate physical processes and discover hidden laws of nature. Over the past several years, we have developed unconventional imaging methods different from CCD and CMOS image sensors, known as serial time-encoded amplified microscopy (STEAM) and sequentially timed all-optical mapping photography (STAMP). As these methods do not require repetitive measurements, which are required by the pump-probe method, they allow us to capture dynamics that cannot be investigated with conventional methods. In this article, we introduce the principles and applications of STEAM and STAMP and discuss future perspectives about ultrafast imaging.
